BROKEN TO BEAUTIFUL
The story on how the pottery girl was saved by a gold man.
Happy, sad. Happy, mad. Non-stop, all day long.
Tōki was bipolar, and unaware. She felt like something
was wrong with her, but was too scared to find out what it
was.
Anytime she was mad or sad, she would feel a sharp pain on her
back,
but it would soon go away. She was alone in her little village of
Claymore.
No friends, no family. She lived in a two story house at the end
of it all.
School would come along, and she would not go.
She thought since she was useless at being a daughter,
school would be rather pointless.
Soon, she was an adult.
Day’s would go by, and all she would do is
take walks through town at night, for not a soul
would be out so late. She loved to look up at the
stars, what it would be like to be one. Bright, soaring, everyone
looking up to them, admiring their beauty.
Tōki used to think she was beautiful, but the feeling
became one with the pointless junk, thrown away,
never to be retrieved again.
Tōki was just inside her house, washing dishes from her dinner
when she saw
a sparkle from the corner of her eye. It was night time, so she
thought to herself, ‘must be the stars, calling me to gaze upon
their beautiful charm’
She turned off her faucet, took off her
smok, and walked outside.
The cold, frosty
air hit her face so violently, she thought she might have just
been impaled by an ice cold knife. She quickly ran inside, and
grabbed her jacket.
Out she went, into the darkness of the night, but what she
found was not the stars. Standing tall and glimmering was a
man of gold.
His glitter was so bright, you could have sworn it was
still day time.
He looked back, and looked shocked, as if
he had never seen a clay being before. He started to walk, but
the
wind kept throwing him off balance. She quickly came to his
side and
blocked the wind, so it could no longer push around
the
man of gold. “What is your name, sir? I wish to know.”
Silent.
“Please. My name is Tōki, and I wish to know the name of you, fellow man of gold! ”
He looked over at her with sad looking eyes.
“Then why, Tōki, would you even bother helping me, a stranger,
a nobody. I have no home, no
family. I just follow where the wind
takes me. What if I have no name?
THEN what would you do?”
Tōki looked at him, full of sorrow. “I would-” Then, the pains started.
She gasped with tears in her
eyes as the pain grew worse.
“Are you ok?!” The mysterious man said, full of concern.
“I-Im ok...this happens all the time, ” She said, waving him off.
“No, you must go home. I’ll escort you back.” He said, as he softly
grabbed her hand,
Away they went, gold and clay.
They arrived at the house, and the gold man slowly
let go of her hand,
as if he didn't want to let go.
Tōki seemed to notice,so she said
with a smile,
“Don’t worry...I’ll be fine”
The man did not look convinced at all.
“If it’s ok, I would like to stay with you for the night. You don’t look
so good.
I'm quite worried about you.”
Tōki was touched by this kind attention. She was usually pushed
away.
This was a nice change for her.
“Allright, I have a spare room you can use.”
She said, widening the door for him to enter.
“I also
have some leftover food from dinner,
if you would like a bite to eat.”
He looked at her with a pleased look on his tired face.
“Yes please!”
She smiled, and went to the kitchen to get his food.
“Kintsukuroi”
Tōki looked behind her.
“What
did you say?”
“Kintsukuroi, you wanted to know my name, right?”
He said with a small smile.
She smiled in return.
‘What a cute name’
She thought to herself.
She walked over to the table as he sat down.
“Here you go Kintsukuroi, I made lasagna. It was my mo-”
She stopped speaking.
He looked at her, confused.
“-mom’s recipe?” He said, finishing her sentence.
She just nodded her head, and made his
plate for him,
She winced, and slowly walked away from the table,
not wanting to frighten him again.
“Where
are you going?”
He asked, starting to rise from his seat.
“To the
bathroom, I don’t feel well,”
she said
as she walked upstairs.
She sat on the toilet lid, and just slowly
cried.
All she felt was pain in the moment of time.
She calmed herself down and got up.
When she opened the door though, Kintsukuroi was
standing right there. He looked at her with apologetic
eyes.
“Are you okay?” He said, as he knelt
down, looking into her eyes.
“I'M JUST FINE!!”
He stepped back, not knowing what to do.
She covered her mouth, and lowered her head down.
“I-I’m sorry...I don’t know why I yelled at you…”
Kintsukuroi embraced her, hushing her from more tears.
Then everything went silent when he heard a crack.
“What was that?” He said, holding her in a
protective hug.
“I don't really know...it’s been happening A LOT!”
Another crack was heard.
“Ok, there must be wrong with the flooring then.”
He said, getting up
.
“You should get to bed, we have a big day tomorrow!”
He winks at her.
“Ok! The spare room is two rooms down”
She said, pointing in the direction.
“Thank you so much for dinner, and the kindness of your heart”
He bowed and whisked into the room.
“Goodnight Kintsukuroi!”
She said as she shut off the
lights,
and went to her room.
Tōki walked up to her mother.
Pale, thin, tall.
Something you’d find in a horror movie.
She pointed down at her.
‘Disgrace to the family,
why did I even have you,
useless,
unworthy child!’
She slapped Tōki across the face.
She fell to the ground.
‘Im sorry mom, I didn't meant too~’
She woke up in sweat, tears, and pain.
She slowly rose, but the pain got worse.
She sat up, sweat dripping down her porcelain face.
It was still night,
so she had to be quiet.
‘Maybe some food will calm me down,’
she thought to herself.
When she
went to go stand up though, she felt the sharpest
pain she had ever felt.
She fell to the ground, and the world went black.
She awoke in a dark place, nothing to see for miles.
‘You’re dying young one.’
‘Who are you?!’ She screamed into the dark.
Not a thing could be seen. The anonymous voice
continued.
‘Your days are running very short, soon, you will be NOTHING’
The voice said, echoing all around her.
“I AM NOT
DYING!!”
Her eyes darted open. She was on the floor beside her bed, unmoved.
She groaned as she tried
to get up, but could not move.
Suddenly, Kintsukuroi bashed the door open.
“ARE YOU OK!?
I heard a scream and-”
“I can’t get up…” she said so softly, he could
barely hear.
He quickly rushed to her
side, sitting her up.
As he sat her up, the sound
of tinkling glass filled the room.
His eyes widened, and she looked up at him and asked,
“What is it Kintsukuroi?”
Just those
words made him tear up.
“W-what??”
She said, also getting teary.
He slowly put his hand on her cracked cheek, and she winced.
“You...we need to get you to a doctor.”
He said, picking her up bridal style.
“But it’s night time.” She said, softly.
“No Tōki, it’s noon,” he said with a concerned tone.
He opened the window, and stood on the ledge.
“What are you do-” she started to say, as he
jumped off.
She closed her eyes, waiting for contact with the ground,
but it never came.
She opened her eyes to see them flying over the village.
People were pointing up in awe.
For once, she felt like a star.
When they got to the doctor, they got separated.
(1 hour later)
Tōki came out, bandaged with tears all in her eyes.
“What happened??”
The doctor came out and shook his hand.
“Hello, I am Doctor Ishi,
and I have bad news.”
Kintsukuroi looked at the doctor with worried eyes.
“What is it?”
The doctor cleared his throat and said,
“She has a condition
called Bipolar. While that would cause no harm to the metal
people next town over, to us pottery people…”
He looked down and continued.
“it breaks us. It kills us…”
Kintsukuroi looked at Tōki, watching the fish in the waiting room,
‘She looks so peaceful’ he thought to himself.
“Is there a cure?” He asked.
Ishi
looked at him with sad eyes.
“I’m sorry sir, but no. The medications that we would need are too far away, and by time we get
them, it would be too late.”
He gritted his teeth, and pointed at Tōki.
“Well, won't you TRY to help her?!”
“
I'm
sorry sir, but
there's nothing I can do…All
we CAN do now is
bandage
her up, and pray
for the best.”
He clenched his fist and slammed it on the counter.
“Some doctor YOU are!!”
He yelled as he picked her back up, and whisked out of the
office. As they were flying over the
village, she asked
softly into his ear,
“What was our “big day”
supposed to be?”
He looked at her and smiled.
“I wanted to show you a talent I have.”
She curled
up alittle and asked,
“What is it?”
“I can mend-” Then he stopped and looked at her
with wild,
happy eyes.
“Mend what??”
She looked back at him, giggling..
He set her down on her doorstep and spinned her around,
laughing like he just won the lottery.
“I CAN MEND POTTERY!!”
He exclaimed proudly.
She looked at him confused like, and
then came to realize why it was so
great.
Tears formed in her eyes as she hugged him.
“You can fix me~”
Then she stopped celebrating
and asked,
“How?”
He grabbed her broken hand, and unwrapped the bandages.
She winced as it
was finally off.
He put his glittery hand of gold over her hand, and said,
“Tap my hand a little.”
She did as told and tapped his hand.
Glitter fell off, and went into the cracks of her hand.
She gasped in awe as the pain suddenly stopped,
and her hand shined brighter than a million
stars.
She shook her hand, and bended her fingers to see if it held,
and it did!
She started to cry as he hugged her.
She was saved.
(2 weeks later)
“Aaaand, open your eyes!!”
Kintsukuroi said as he removed his hands from her face.
She opened
her eyes to find herself in the mirror.
She shined of gold and glitter.
She looked...beautiful!
She gasped.
“Thank you!! You fixed me I won’t die!!”
Tōki turned around to find Kintsukuroi, kneeled down on one knee.
Tears formed in the corners of her eyes.
“I love you so much, Tōki, my love. You have always been so kind to me…
So loving. I can’t see myself being anywhere but in the wind if it wasn't for
you.
I want to be with you forever and ever!!
Will you marry me?”
He pulled a ring that was made of clay...and gold.
“Y-YES!!”
She cried as she embraced her prince in shining glory.
He wanted her.
She needed him.
Neither would be anywhere.
If it wasn't for her.
Tōki.
